I’m excited to tell you about my latest pattern, which is in a book! Seriously, you can go to Barnes and Noble and find my design in a book! GAH! How exciting is that? I think every knitter I know was pretty excited about the first “60 Quick Knits” book, which features all Cascade 220 patterns. This book is a second in the series with a focus all on baby stuff, knit in the superwash version of Cascade 220. There is a wall in Cast on Cottage of cascade 220, that is 3 times the height and width of me. It’s a literal rainbow of color. Cascade offers every shade you could ever desire. I’m planning to use some of it in the future again soon.

I thought I would share this very cool little epiphany I had recently. I have curly hair. Curly haired girls know you never brush your hair when its dry. Some straight haired people have no idea about this. If you brush your hair when its dry, the curls separate and turn into a 1980′s nightmare. It’s not pretty. I only ever brush my hair when it’s wet. It was a bit of an adjustment as BG’s hair got longer, I realized WOW I can comb it when its dry and it will actually make it look BETTER! Shocking…

I was a late adopter to Facebook (and sort of to twitter though when I joined it, it was just beginning to get big). For facebook I was less interested in it because it became right away, a very odd mix of social networks. I had co-workers, high school classmates I had not seen or even heard from in over 10 years, knitters, “mommy” friends and then family. I never could figure out who I was speaking too, so I didn’t have a lot to say. I still don’t talk as much on facebook as I do other places but I’ve gotten more used to the broad spectrum of people.
More recently a high school alumni posted that he was playing a gig in Atlanta, promoting his new album. Back in high school, Dean was well known for running track and for his curly hair. My memories of him are of a very smart (and cute) guy who you couldn’t help but like.

Over this past weekend my wonderful husband was a full on life saver. He watched the kids while I went off and worked on Petite Purls (I code the front end to the site, edit designer photos, and take and edit some photos myself). I was not finished by Sunday night as I had planned, so I had to work all day Monday. I lucked out and my husband had just finished one freelance job, and was due to start another next week. So he had the time (sort of). When he woke up in the morning I said “I’ve got to finish Petite Purls, I need you to work from home to help me!”) now in the past when I’ve said that to him, that equated to his sitting in his office getting aggravated every time he had to get up, while he attempted to work, while *I* attempted to work. Not the best combination but when he’s busy he’s gotta get stuff done and he’s the one who pays the mortgage around here!

I suppose my husband was right when he said I was taking on too much stuff, and my blog certainly suffers for it. The good news is, I just mailed off 60 gigs worth of photos to a photography company (just completed 5 days worth of shooting, which included about 300 kids which I took candid and modern portraits off at their schools) so that work is complete, and come early next week the Spring Petite Purls will be up so that will be complete, and I finished a big project for one of my favorite yarn companies about a month or so ago (and just remembered I owe the tech editor an e-mail) so come late next week I am saying no to anything that comes my way and focusing only on my kids and my book. The photography stuff was a WONDERFUL experience but totally sucked me dry in every way possible (time, sleep, concentration, legs muscles) though I hope I now have calves of steel!
