Snow is a rare thing here in Georgia, but we had the wonderful gift of a white Christmas this year. Last year I kept saying I would knit mittens for my 2 year old but I never got around to it and we had a few instances of a crying toddler because her hands turned red from the cold. This year I was determined and it took two false starts to get what I wanted.
First I tried a little fair isle mitten, but it came out too small and after several hours knitting with no result I was frustrated with little progress, she needed these the next day. Then I tried a bulky yarn pattern, but the yarn was just not soft enough (you need it a bit flexible for little hands to play) and I found that her tiny little thumb never found its way into the thumb hole, or somehow poked through the bulk yarn. I realized that by not having a thumb in her mittens not only would she be more warm with all of her fingers together, but it would be much easier to knit.

Out here in Georgia we have had a cold fall. It’s been freezing a great deal many more days then it should have. They are calling for snow on Sunday. Too bad it isn’t two days earlier, tonight for instance. Happy Christmas to those who celebrate. In our house we celebrate both Chanukah and Christmas. It’s always a fun month of the year in many ways, and stressful in others. We’ve had a year full with wonderful events, and also fraught with more hard times then we are used to. It’s been a wonderful year to watch little miss LG grow up from baby to toddler. Poor little thing is almost always hitting her head on something, and boy does she ever love to climb. Did I tell you about BG? Well that little girl just got up and potty trained herself.

The always fabulouse Spud & Chloë sent me a few copies of my new pattern! I can’t tell you how excited I am to have a pattern published with them, and they are just a seriously wonderful company who treats their designers really well. Honestly, it’s been a dream to be able to do work for them and I was so excited to see these patterns in person and get to hold them in my hand and to see my design up on their website.

The Winter 2010 Petite Purls issue is live! I had the pleasure of photographing 5 (!!) knits for this issue. Poor BG is about over the whole modeling thing, but she sure enjoyed those gummy bears she got as reward (Grandma’s good idea, as BG was not so thrilled with mom taking pictures, yet again!). She’s a champ though, and always tilts her head or points her toe when I ask once she decides she will let me take her picture.
