5 Months – 28 months

5 Months – 28 months

It’s just easier to do these together now! First lets start with the little one, who is now 5 months old! Sometimes it’s so hard to think, even what to write down to remember. LG is adorable, and very happy. She loves to be held and when all else fails, hold her and she is content. She is a laid back baby. She is still on her Zantac for the acid reflux and I think it contributes to her not sleeping very often. She often goes 4 to 6 hours without sleeping, which I think is a bit much for a 5 month old.

Is it snowing right now?

Is it snowing right now?

How exciting, Susan B. Anderson mentioned my Serendipity hat pattern on her blog today! Also very exciting, the Spud & Chloë blog did an entire blog post just about the pattern! Isnt’ it wonderful, how supportive they are of indie designers?

Run out and get some of their Outer yarn today, it really is fantastic. Made of superwash 65% wool/35% organic cotton, I’m not a fan of cotton yarns normally (dries my hands out) but I loved this stuff. It truly inspired this pattern. LG (“Little Girl” is the nick name for my second daughter, featured in the Serendipity photos, she is 5 months old!) loves wearing the yellow one I knit her all the time. I pop it on her head before I go out to check the mailbox every day!

Lounge Pants Sewing Tutorial

Lounge Pants Sewing Tutorial

I am sure there are loads of tutorials like this online. I had finished sewing some pants for little LG from a pattern, and recalled there being easier methods to create your own pattern for pants pretty easily. I searched out a few, some had sites were you had to pay more to view the images larger, or they didn’t get very detailed in details for newbies. I wanted to create my own, from my own perspective. I saw one for just cutting out two peices of fabric, but in that version the pants had to have a straight leg. I love the look of a slightly flared leg on my toddler so I threw together my own pattern based of my experience from sewing LGs little pants, and from glancing at some online photos.

These are some seriously easy pants to make and you get to create your own pattern which I think is a lot of fun! These can be made for babies, toddler PJs (technically Lounge Pants as they are not “tight fitting”), childs pants or even adult pants!

From the Studio: Designing Hats

From the Studio: Designing Hats

Serendipity has been my first adventure into knitting hats, so I thought I would write a little bit about how it came about. I have to say that this has been one of the most satisfying things I have ever designed. I like to knit what I design more then once, to perfect on it and tweak it. I was able to knit 3 of these chunky monkeys in just 2 days, in my spare moments. It’s an amazingly fast knit in that chunky yarn.

Ah yes, the yarn. Lets talk about the yarn. It’s made from Spud & Chloe’s “Outer” which is a wonderful blend of superwash wool (65%) and organic cotton (35%). That is the perfectly, washable combination for a busy mom, and hats get dirty pretty quick so I think it’s really nice to have it be machine washable. I had been lucky enough to receive a preview of all the new colors (coming out this month!) and had been looking at them for a few weeks.

I had some other yarn but the Outer kept calling my name, plus the Sunkissed color was so amazingly sweet. I loved just how the yarn looked, I love how soft and bulky it is. It literally was calling out to me to be made into a chunky hat. Wasn’t there a famous sculpture artist who said the shape was already in the stone, he just carved away the extra bits? It felt like that. I just knew what that yarn wanted to be knit up into.
