22 Months

What a weird and wild month it has been. BG has been great with all the transitions/changes. We moved her into a toddler bed about 2 weeks ago hoping to forgo having to buy another crib. We had very low expectations and the attitude was “If it doesn’t work we just buy another crib” mainly because I did not want to push BG to do something she was not ready to do (and the crib she has was pretty cheap to begin with).

She took to it amazingly well. I think DH was even more shocked then I was. It was not the best night to even try but I figure it we didn’t soon we never would and there never is a perfect time. We took apart the crib and put all the pieces on the floor in the baby’s room. She didn’t really seem to care. We placed her toddler bed in the same place the crib had been (it had been in her room for several months and we always read books on it) and I arranged everything on it exactly as we did in her crib (with pillow at the wrong end, because she doesn’t sleep on the pillow). Here we are 2 weeks later and she’s even napping better then she used too, and she still will sleep until 8am most mornings.

Last night we had about a zillion fireworks going off all around our house from the lake to our neighbors and she never woke up once. The husbeast is nervous #2 will give us a run for our money after we have been so spoiled. I am now 36 weeks and actually oddly enough feeling pretty good. It’s hard to do stuff physically and I have zero motivation to do much, but aside from that I feel good. We had a relaxing day on the 4th. I didn’t even bother to put BG in her 4th of July Dress (She wore it to daycare for the parade they had on thursday) and just let her run around in a tank top and one of her dress up hats. She’s had a low-grade fever for several days now so we waited until the sun was going down to take her out and let her cool down in the pool a bit and have a popsicle to help with the fever. Despite her mild sickness, she has been super hyper and crazy fun.

She loves to sing to songs, and her version of the “kids on the bus go up and down” is fairly funny because she sings it without any sort of a tune, and likes if I clap my hands when she says “bus” and I have no idea why but she will giggle like crazy if I do it each time. Just the other day I sat on the twin bed that we have on the floor and she threw a little soft teddy bear at me and said “catch it!” and we played catch for about 10 minutes until I got tired. She was giggling like crazy and was sad when we stopped. Little things seem to thrill her to no end and she will give me the most coy smiles when I ask her to do something and she ignores me (such as in the photo below I asked her to stand and say cheese, but instead she gave me the grin you see and ran by).

I’ve been working like crazy on the baby’s room. BG doesn’t seem very curious about the room. She likes to jump on the twin bed and will point at the tree on the wall and say “ooh pretty tree, picture tree” She’s tried to climb INTO the crib once or twice which I now have blocked with a chair but she just seems to think of it as another room. I thought all the bright colors and decor would make her think it was for her but she hasn’t said “no, it’s mine” about anything relating to the room yet (as she likes to do with her spoons, toys and other random objects). It’s also been really nice to get the crib out of her room and think about what else I want to do to hers. We are waiting until she is 3 to do much else. I’ve cleared the top of the desk so she won’t attempt to climb/pull it (being free in her room now!) and all we have in there is stuffed animals and books so she won’t play when she should be sleeping. I am looking forward to a year or two from now when I can re-arrange things to be more “big girl” but there won’t be any major changes to her decor. Eventually a trundle bed and a little chair for her desk.

I actually had gotten her a little doll cradle to try to assist with the “big girl bed” thing, but she just kept sitting in it so I’ve hidden it in the closet for now. I’m all about the decorating stuff, can you tell? We get new carpet in all of the bedrooms this coming friday and I can’t wait for how clean and wonderful it will feel. Eventually when she gets the trundle I plan to take her toddler bed sheets, skirt and her bumper and turn them into a patchwork quilt for her big bed. That will be lots of fun and a neat way to have them last longer and something special to keep that is still useful.
Not much else going on here, still crocheting away on the baby’s blanket, I am nearly 99% done with a Toddler version of the Country Kiddie, and just 2 very small sleeves short of a doll pattern for a special side project. I could probably finish all of that in a week if I pushed myself but I have not hardly knit in several days. No motivation at all it seems, but I am just going with the flow. I figure it could be 40 weeks again like last time with BG, just no way to tell.

I’m so glad she transitioned well to the bed. That was a pretty hard thing in our house. BG has the sweetest smile. :)

Oh hooray for BG! Congrats on the smooth transition. Ethan is still in his crib, but he will be coming out as soon as he figures out how to climb out of it. Thankfully he hasn’t done that yet. I’m not ready for him to be in a big boy bed.

Here we are at nearly 2 months with little LG. Things have been so much different this month then from last month. With BG in daycare until 2:30 each day I am given a wonderful amount of freedom to spend alone-time with my precious baby. I cherish each moment knowing I am lucky to have [...]

It’s been overcast and gloomy in my part of Georgia for many days now, nearly feels like weeks. The forecast calls for more of it too. I like it because it means it’s not as hot, and it reminds me that fall is indeed coming and that soon I’ll smell that crisp cool smell of falling leaves [...]
