I finished up the February Baby Sweater, and it’s so adorable I just love it. It’s knit in Rowan Purelife Organic Cotton DK. I believe I used 1.5 balls but it’s hard to recall as I wasn’t good about keeping track.
Some of you long time readers may recall I am not a huge fan of cotton, this did not bother my fingers at all and it’s 100% cotton. Normally 100% dries out my hands and sort of feels like scratching fingernails on a chalkboard to knit for some reason. It has a very subtle variance in the color that doesn’t create stripes but just adds a more natural feel to the yarn over all. I am very happy with it and now want to get loads of it. I’ll have to keep my eye on WEBS to see if it ever goes on sale (it is discountable up to 25% on their site though!).
This is the baby’s first official FO! I am so behind how far I was with knitting for BG, but my knitting patterns have been distracting me. I want to crochet her a baby blanket in a ripple stitch, and then the newborn pattern I dreamed up is still itching at my fingers, so ready and wanting to knit it.
Just for fun I put it on Amelia and then included myself in the shot to document 27 weeks.
I am now working on another pattern, about 1/4th done after 2 nights work so it should come along nicely this week. It’s a quick knit at a large gauge (17 over 4″). I can’t believe its mid-may already and I am now officially in the 3rd Trimester of this pregnancy. The husbeast and I spent 1.5 hours in the garage Saturday sorting things into boxes and making trash piles with loads of progress, now he has a space to move the 10 full bins out of HIS office (he packed up his entire closet and all his computer/office supplies) into that space. Once he does that we can start to work on emptying his 1 dresser, moving that out and moving 1 of his computer desks out. If we can empty the room and just have his 1 computer desk then we can finally move the baby’s furniture in there and put it together (matches BGs set). I am anxious to get the walls painted and the larger furniture into the room.
Here is BG after she woke up Saturday; she saw dad was wearing a Bandana so she wanted to put one on too. She looks really big in this picture for some reason. She has certainly gotten taller but she’s still a wee thing compared to others her age. She caught a stomach bug last Wednesday and it was still looming last night (uck) and I am hoping she is feeling better in a few days. No more ear infections, so overall she’s a very pleasant sick person! As long as she can go outside into the backyard she is a happy camper.
I have lined up so much stuff my head might explode.
I have two knitting commissions that will result in a “trade” of sorts with two very talented women (and mothers). These are both actually on the back burner until the more pressing projects are finished (knitting a doll sweater and knitting a newborn cocoon, both not too crazy but still time consuming).
1 pattern for a pet project I am working on, which is going so well I am starting to freak out about it (in a good way) but I have lots of HTML/CSS work ahead of me to make it happen, along with the pattern I need to finish knitting/writing to hand off to the tech editor.
Country Kiddie has been re-sized up for toddlers (yes, I listened to all the feedback!) in a DK weight yarn (I nearly wanted to die knitting the 18mo size on size 2 needles!) and that pattern is actually already completed (tech edited) but I need to knit it to make sure I’m 100% happy, and then make a new schematic and photo shoot and pattern template blah blah blah.
A newborn pattern that I can NOT wait to knit that will be made specifically in the newborn size only, made in a very particular way just for new little babies. It’s going to be adorable, and I’m going to knit it in some superwash sock yarn (Wollmeise!) and I seriously can’t wait to knit it. It’s going to be for BG #2 of course but will also be a pattern. I don’t need to rush on that because I can’t photograph it until the baby is born anyway, but its the one project I seriously WANT to knit, right now! I have an urge to knit the new baby things as she doesn’t have even one FO yet.
(Not a great photo, it’s way more cute in person!)
Speaking of FO’s for the new baby, well I’ve been cheating on all the above projects by continuing to work ont he February Baby Sweater. I am so close to the end that my fingers simply itch to work on it. I am working from the very short “pithy” directions. I was like many before me very confused by the CO 7 stitches at each side of the underarms, now that I’ve passed that part I see how amazingly clever it is! Then I came to the knit up 4 X 7 stitches which also did not make ANY sense to me until I checked on Ravelry, but basically it’s asking you to pick up those 7 stitches you cast on at either edge of each sleeve (hence the 4, you did it 4 times). Once I picked those up and kept knitting I was so proud of how good my underarms looked (and of course any holes are not very noticeable because it has so many holes in the design anyway). I am about 1.5″ past all that and only have like 3″ or so left on the body to be done!
I showed it to the husbeast last night and he asked me why would I knit a sweater for a baby that has holes in it, if the sweater is supposed to keep the baby warm? Hah! I told him we live in Georgia so sweaters with holes in them are generally a good idea. I really couldn’t think of what else to say accept it “breaths”. I mean seriously, it does seem a bit odd from a functional perspective doesn’t it?? This baby will be born in late July or Early August so I knit it up in some Rowan Purelife Cotton and really it will be very hot here so nothing super warm would be desired anyway.
I donated $10 last night to Claudia’s MS Ride, she has an Alice Staremore Tudor Roses book up for grabs this year.
I also found the Etsy shop for the wonderful project bag I found at Stitches South. So now I have her marked as a favorite shop and can get another later. Just waiting for one in some colors I like. There is a really pretty purple one up there right now. They are created by the Neurotic Knitter and I really love the one I got last week.
